Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions from trailer buyers and service customers in Central New York.
Buying a Trailer

Our inventory changes regularly — browse our full inventory page or call us to ask about specific makes and models.
We stock trailers from many of the industry's most trusted manufacturers including Aluma, American Hauler, Continental Cargo, Haulmark, Homesteader, Horizon, Iron Bull, ITI Cargo, Karavan, Kaufman, K-Trail, Lightning, Mission, Nexhaul, Nitro, Norstar, Quality Trailers, U.S. Cargo, Valley, and more. Our lineup grows regularly as we add new brands and models.
Yes. We carry both new and used trailers. Used units are inspected before being listed for sale. Check our inventory page and use the condition filter to browse available used trailers, or call us to ask about current used stock.
The right size depends on what you're hauling and your tow vehicle's capacity. For cargo and equipment, consider the length, width, and weight of your load plus the trailer's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). For livestock, factor in the number and size of animals. Our staff is happy to walk you through the options — give us a call or stop by our lot in Martville.
GVWR stands for Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. It is the maximum allowable total weight of the trailer when fully loaded — including the trailer itself plus its cargo. Your tow vehicle's towing capacity must meet or exceed the trailer's GVWR. Always check both your vehicle's tow rating and the trailer's GVWR before purchasing.
For most personal and light commercial use, a standard driver's license is sufficient. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is generally required when the combined gross vehicle weight rating (GCWR) of the tow vehicle and trailer exceeds 26,000 lbs, or when the trailer alone exceeds 10,000 lbs GVWR and is used for commercial purposes. We recommend confirming requirements with the New York DMV or a licensed professional for your specific situation.
Yes. Patriot Trailer Solutions offers on-site DMV processing, which means we can handle title transfers and registration paperwork right here at our dealership. This saves you a separate trip to the DMV after your purchase.
We price our trailers competitively and work hard to offer fair value. We encourage you to call or visit to discuss pricing on specific units. Trade-ins and package deals may also be available depending on the situation.
Financing
Yes. We work with multiple financing partners to help customers find a payment plan that fits their budget. Our lending partners include Sheffield Financial, Rock Solid Funding, Clicklease, First Citizens Bank, and C3. Financing is available for both personal and business purchases.
We work with several lenders who specialize in a range of credit profiles, including options for buyers with challenged credit. Approval and terms depend on each lender's requirements. Contact us to discuss your situation and we'll help identify the best options available to you.
Yes. Several of our lending partners offer commercial financing options designed for business owners and contractors. Clicklease and Rock Solid Funding in particular specialize in business equipment financing. Call us to learn more about what's available for your business.
Down payment requirements vary by lender and the specific loan terms. Some programs offer low or no down payment options. Contact us or visit our financing page for more details on what each lender offers.
Towing & Specifications
Most of our trailers use a standard 2-inch or 2-5/16-inch ball hitch. Gooseneck trailers require a gooseneck ball mounted in the bed of a pickup truck. The correct hitch size is listed on each trailer's detail page. If you're unsure what your vehicle is equipped with, our staff can help you figure it out.
Your vehicle's towing capacity is listed in the owner's manual and on the manufacturer's towing guide for your specific year, make, model, and engine configuration. Never exceed your vehicle's rated towing capacity. When in doubt, consult your vehicle manufacturer or a qualified mechanic.
Many of our trailers — particularly larger dump, equipment, and enclosed trailers — come equipped with electric trailer brakes. New York State requires trailer brakes on any trailer with a GVWR over 3,000 lbs. Brake requirements and configurations vary by trailer, so check the specifications on each listing or ask us directly.
Yes. All new trailers we sell are equipped with DOT-compliant lighting. If you're purchasing a used trailer, we can inspect the lighting and wiring as part of a service visit before you take it on the road.
Service & Maintenance
Our service department handles a range of trailer repairs and maintenance including brake inspection and replacement, lighting and wiring repairs, axle and suspension work, floor and structural repairs, coupler and hitch hardware, and general maintenance. We also stock replacement parts for many popular trailer makes and models.
You can request a service appointment directly on our Parts & Service page using our online scheduling form. You can also call us at (833) 782-2746 or email salesassociate@patriottrailersolutions.com. We'll confirm your appointment and let you know what to expect.
Yes. We stock a variety of replacement parts and accessories for many popular trailer makes and models. Contact us to confirm availability and compatibility for your specific trailer before making a trip to the dealership.
For most trailers used regularly, an annual inspection is a good baseline. Key items to check include wheel bearings, brakes, tires, lighting, and the coupler and safety chains. Trailers used in heavy-duty applications — hauling equipment, livestock, or frequent long-distance trips — may benefit from more frequent inspections. Our service team can advise based on your usage.
